Tilak Varma destroys English bowlers

India were given a target of 166 runs to chase in the second T20I by the Three Lions. It was a good result as the floor in Chennai had enough support for the batsmen.

At the midway break, Indian all-rounder Axar Patel was confident that they would complete the run-out with ease, but that was not to be.

India lost both openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma early in the field and Suryakumar Yadav’s poor form continued. Dhruv Jurrell is also out for a low score, and so is Hardik Pandya.

England were all over the hosts and it looked like they would take the game away from India. However, Tilak Varma did not allow this to happen.

The young left-handed batsman stood strong at one end and played accordingly. He proved that his scoring rate was good and his brilliant 38 run partnership brought India back into the game.

After Sundar’s defeat, Tilak Varma fought well with his tails to lead the team to the finish line. India won by 2 wickets on 72* 55 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes.

Gautam Gambhir asked me to play as Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma won the man of the match award and while talking to the presenter, he revealed that head coach Gautam Gambhir had asked him to play as per the circumstances. And so he said.

“The wicket was slightly two-paced. Yesterday I was talking to Gautam sir, he asked me to play as per the situation.”

Talking about the batting position, he said that he will continue with the left-right combination in the team, so he is happy to bat at number 3 or number 4. Tilak Varma talks about Ravi Bishnoi’s crucial contribution with the bat. Tilak Varma said:

“The left-right combination will be a good combination and it will be difficult for the bowlers to adjust. We have played in a very difficult place in South Africa before. We are well prepared in the nets and here is the result.

“I told him (Bishnoi) to stay in shape and hit it in the gap. One off the fast bowler and one four off Livingston, a bounce, extraordinary. That made it easy to finish the game.”
