Suryakumar Yadav calls Rohit Sharma’s abusive stump mic ‘the difference’: ‘I’ll stay away…’

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav recently made a shocking revelation about his stump mic antics. The 34-year-old said he had to stay away from the trunk mic as he wanted it to remain Rohit Sharma’s specialty.

Suryakumar took over the Indian T20I captaincy in 2024 after the retirement of Rohit Sharma. Along with Rohit, another top batsman Virat Kohli retired after India’s title win in T20 World Cup 2024.

While Suryakumar has been India’s captain in T20Is, Rohit Sharma is still leading the team in Tests and ODIs. Rohit will lead India in the upcoming Champions Trophy where Suryakumar has not found a place.

Suryakumar Yadav speaks on Rohit Sharma’s stump mic antics

Speaking on Star Sports, Suryakumar Yadav insisted that Rohit Sharma should stay away from the stump mic as he wants it to remain his specialty. In his speech he referred to Rohit’s famous speech related to ‘vegetables’.

“Try to stay away from stumps. If it’s someone’s special thing, it’s better to stay with that person. )” said Suryakumar.

The classic ‘Garden’ dialogue has become Rohit Sharma’s trademark. In the year During India’s five-match home Test against England in early 2024, the conversation went viral when Rohit criticized their pitches for being too relaxed during a Test match.

Suryakumar Yadav says he hears that talk a lot when the players wander around the garden. “I will not stop the players,” he said.

“Haan woh jab hum gumte rehte hai garden mein, woh sunne ko mil hai jata hai (Yes, we hear these things when we walk around the garden),” says Suryakumar.

“Nahi, mai nahi rokta hu kisi ko kyuki koi gumta hai nahi hai (I won’t stop anyone because no one is roaming around),” he replied when asked if he stopped any player to be so relaxed.

Suryakumar Yadav has an impressive record as India’s captain in T20Is. The 34-year-old has led India to 14 out of 18 T20Is at an impressive 77.77. He is fourth in the list of India’s most successful T20I captains after Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

Suryakumar was dismissed for a duck in the first T20I of the series against England and will be looking to get back into the running in the second match. The right-arm pacer has been an integral part of India’s T20I setup with some great numbers.

In 79 T20Is so far, he has scored 2570 runs at an average of 40.15 and a strike rate of 167.53. He has hit 4 hundreds and 21 fifties in his T20I career. Currently, he is not a part of India’s ODI squad which is why he is not considered for the Champions Trophy.
