Gov. Christie nomes R.S.D. to become next Homeland Security secretary. The nomination cleared a key hurdle in Friday night’s confirmation process, leading to a final vote later this weekend.

Her confirmation vote is expected to take place on Sunday morning.

If confirmed, Noem would be the fourth of President Donald Trump’s picks to run for the Senate, following Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and incoming Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The soon-to-be-expected votes after NOM have chosen Treasury Secretary nominee Scott Bessant, followed by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

South Dakota’s governor is expected to get bipartisan support for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) certification. Her nomination came out of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) on a 13-2 vote. Only two Democrats opposed her.

“I was the first governor to send National Guard troops to Texas,” Noem told the committee during his confirmation hearing last week.

“If confirmed as secretary, I will ensure that our special, extraordinary Border Patrol agents have all the tools and resources and support they need to effectively carry out their mission.”
