Master Lock, headquartered in Wisconsin, has moved out of Wisconsin after more than 100 years in the state.
Master Locke set up shop in Milwaukee in 1921, and the brand has had a lasting footprint in Wisconsin for over 100 years. However, Legacy seems to be coming to an abrupt end.
Things started to change May 2023When the company announced plans to close Master Lock’s manufacturing operations in Milwaukee in March 2024, about 330 workers lost their jobs as the company shifted to other locations and outsourced. While the company ceased manufacturing operations, it retained its corporate headquarters in Oak Creek, a suburb of Milwaukee.
Now, Master Lock is moving out of Wisconsin entirely. On Wednesday, the company’s parent, Fortune Brands Innovations, announced the closing of its Oak Creek headquarters, consolidating operations in Illinois.

The new headquarters will occupy two buildings in Deerfield. According to the company, it chose Illinois for its expansion investment because of incentives provided by the state’s Economic Development for Growth Economy (EDGE) program.
Fortune Brands will receive EDGE tax credits following the investment, which will create at least 400 new full-time jobs and retain 128 full-time jobs already in Deerfield. Specific investment amounts and square footage requirements are outlined in the EDGE Agreement, which has been made public.

Fortune Brands said its US manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, sales offices and international sites will continue to operate as usual, including the company’s digital-focused office in San Francisco.
