UnitedHealthcare announces new CEO after killing Brian Thompson

United Health Group UnitedHealthcare announced a new leader Thursday after former CEO Brian Thompson was targeted last month.

Tim Noel, who most recently served as CEO of UnitedHealth Group’s Medicare and retirement business, will take the top job at UnitedHealthcare after Thompson’s murder. Noel has worked for the company since 2007.

In a statement, UnitedHealth Group said Noel “brings to this role unparalleled experience with proven experience and a strong commitment to improving how healthcare works for consumers, physicians, employers, governments and our other partners.”

Thompson was shot and killed in Manhattan on Dec. 4 while attending the company’s investor day. Law enforcement officials called the killing a “premeditated and targeted attack.”

Thompson has worked for the company for more than 20 years and previously served as chief financial officer for several of the company’s businesses, including the Employer and Individual, Community and State and Medicare and Retirement divisions. CEO of United Healthcare.

Last week, UnitedHealth Group announced its latest earnings report in which CEO Andrew Witty thanked the public after Thompson’s murder.

You know how much he cares about all of us, and how he dedicates his time to helping the health system work better for all people,” Witty said. “He dives deep into passion and care to find solutions to improve experiences for the individual consumer, employer or public health agency,” said Thomson.
