First on FoxA bill recently introduced in the House to restore the Trump-era “stay in Mexico” policy is gathering supporters as the last piece of immigration legislation to receive bipartisan support in the chamber.

Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, a primary lawmaker, introduced the Mexico Remain Act this month.

The first is to ask the Department of Homeland Security to restore immigration protection protocols that the Trump administration introduced and require immigrants to stay in Mexico while their asylum cases are heard. And release.” The protocols were scrapped by the Biden administration, calling them draconian and ineffective.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order to reinstate the protocols, but enshrining the policy in federal law would make it harder for critics to overturn it under another administration.

However, the bill, now before Congress, has picked up more than 100 cosponsors, Fox News Digital was told. That includes two Democrats, Rep. Marie Glusenkamp Perez, D-Wash., and Rep. Jared Golden, D-Maine.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude that more than 100 of my colleagues have shown bipartisan support for my remaining legislation in Mexico that would enact President Trump’s border measures,” Gill said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“Under President Trump, the tide is turning — Congress knows we must strengthen our national security, prevent fraudulent asylum claims, and put our citizens first,” he said.

Trump’s snowball has netted hundreds of prisoners, including illegal immigrants convicted of heinous crimes.

The bill is one of a growing number of signs of support from Democrats for immigration legislation, a year after illegal immigration became a top issue for voters and gave Republicans control of the House, Senate and White House.

On Wednesday evening, the House passed Laken Riley’s bill, which calls for the detention of illegal immigrants accused of theft-related crimes. It has already passed the Senate. In the House, 46 Democrats voted no.

The council is expected to take an active role in dealing with illegal immigration, reflecting several orders from the White House. Those orders include declaring a national emergency at the border, sending troops to the border and canceling Biden-era amnesty programs.
