Members of Congress on both sides of the political spectrum have introduced legislation in recent years that would bar lawmakers and their families from owning stocks. Bipartisan bills to that effect were introduced in the Senate last Congress, but none became law before the end of the 118th Congress, leaving the issue to the current Congress.
