A new brush fire threatens homes in California

Residents are being evacuated in the San Diego area as firefighters battle brush fires that are threatening homes.

Calfire San Diego closed the town of Poway, 34 miles from San Diego, to a vegetation fire near Pomerado Road and Ted Williams Parkway at 1 p.m. Monday. They confirmed that they were helping the fire.

At 3:00 p.m., the city of Poway confirmed that “front growth has stopped.”

Officials said the fire initially spread over two acres and was threatening buildings.

“The Poway Fire Dept. is responding to a brush fire near Ted Williams and Pomerado Road. Traffic on both Ted Williams and Pomerado Road is affected – expect road closures. Residents on Glen Oak Way and Willsey Way are being evacuated,” the city said in an earlier statement. He wrote on text. X.

Officials said the brush fire was driven by high winds and had the potential to grow.

Cal Fire crews are also assisting at the scene and a helicopter has been called in to provide air support.

A temporary evacuation point is being set up at Abrax High School, 12450 Glen Oak Road in Poway, according to the sheriff’s office.

It was the second fire to hit Southern California on Monday, when a small brush fire broke out near the famous Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that the fire was “completely extinguished within 31 minutes and the fire did not grow beyond a quarter of an acre.”

“All exposed structures were successfully defended and no damage was sustained,” the alert said.

The Los Angeles Police Department later confirmed that a witness saw a young man set on fire in the area.

Officers arrested the suspect, who was believed to be a transient, and took him into custody. His identity has not been disclosed.
