A visit to Washington DC after President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration is a chance to explore the nation’s capital through history.
By 2023, the city will welcome nearly 26 million visitors, setting a new record, according to Destination DC.
Travel consultant Christine Peterson told Fox News Digital that if visitors are looking for indoor activities, there are plenty of options around DC.

“Of course, while you’re in town, you’ll want to hit the Smithsonian’s on the mall and you’ll want to hit the National Museum of American History, where you can see the Star Spangled Banner and the first lady’s clothes,” Peterson said.
Incoming First Lady Melania Trump’s 2017 first ball gown is on display at the National Museum of American History’s First Lady exhibit.
Visitors, with free admission and no ticket required, can see the off-the-shoulder cream designed by Hervé Pierre.
For history buffs, travelers can view the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights at the National Archives Museum.

It is the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.The term of each US President begins at noon on January 20th following the presidential election years.
“(Visitors) should make reservations for the National Archives,” advises Peterson.
For family affairs, the International Spy Museum welcomes all ages.
Peterson said it’s an interesting museum.

Advance tickets are recommended, and general admission starts at $30.69.
If travelers want to get outside, Peterson suggests the National Botanical Gardens.
“Another place we enjoy visiting, for the warmth and beauty… it’s the best destination in winter when everything outside is dull,” she shared.
The National Mall has the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the World War II Memorial.

“Remember that all the monuments are outside, but if you wear them properly, they are worth visiting,” Peterson said.
Peterson added that Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia is a “must.”
On Sunday, President-elect Trump will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, FOX 56 reports.
